It’s a Brand-New Ball Game
If you follow the game of Baseball you know that at the end of nine innings, if the score is tied, the teams go into extra innings. The game will continue until a team scores a run or holds the lead by the end of that inning. If the home team scores, the game is over-the home team is the winner and it’s known as a “walk off.”
I read the longest game in major league history went 26 innings and ended 1-1. It was called a tie due to darkness. (Happened in 1920 before electricity) When a game goes into extra innings the announcer usually says, “It’s a brand-new ball game.” That means it’s like starting over again.
In life we come to a place where “it’s a brand-new ball game.” This is usually the result of something happening that ended the old ball game. We have a new beginning. When you start a new job, “it’s a brand-new ball game.” When a couple gets married, “it’s a brand-new ball game.” Likewise, if there is a break-up or a death or even if two people fall out of love with each other, “it’s a brand-new ball game.” Life happens-but a new beginning always starts at the end of an old beginning.
In the game of baseball the same game can reach a “new ball game” status when the regular innings give way to extra innings. Similarly, I believe God can give you a new beginning in your relationships, your current job and in every endeavor you find yourself presently in.
For I am about to do a brand-new thing.
See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness
for my people to come home.
I will create rivers for them in the desert!
Isaiah 43:19 (NLT)
I believe you are on the home team and God will continue to extend the innings in your favor until you win-then and only then, will you be able to “walk off.” Play Ball! It’s a brand-new game!
Just a thought,
