Growing up as a child I had a few pleasures I really enjoyed. One of those delightful experiences was getting a box of Cracker Jacks. I had more fun discovering the prize I won than the caramel-coated popcorn or peanuts. Looking back now, I laugh because the prize wasn’t worth anything. There are some prizes not worth pursuing. Recently, Rafael Nadal won the ultimate prize in tennis by winning a Grand Slam and becoming the first man in 41 years to claim three straight majors in a calendar year, a laudable achievement to say the least.
I press toward the goal for the prize of
the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
There is nothing more energizing in life then to focus on the prize. The prize makes the goal you are pursuing noble. It is the reward at the end of strenuous labor. What prize are you pursuing? In the pursuit of every worthy goal there is a prize. The prize of hard work is success. The prize of a loving marriage is happiness. The prize of completing your degree is better opportunity. The prize of integrity is respect. The prize of character is sustainability. If you can focus on the prize you can endure the pain associated with pursuing a worthy goal. The ultimate prize and the most worthy pursuit in life is Christ – all other prizes pale in comparison. TO LIVE IS CHRIST!
