Live Happy

You are never compensated in life for your intentions. You are only compensated for your completions. Completions are your intentional actions that push you towards great success.

So here’s what I think:
The best thing you can do right now
is to finish what you started last year
and not let those good intentions grow stale.
2 Corinthians 8:10 (MSG)

The best thing you can do right now, in any given area of your life, is to complete what you start. Much of our anxiety can be traced back to projects we have abandoned that started with noble intentions. Those unfinished items stay lingering in our minds and hearts until we have finished them or removed them completely. This is a good reminder for me, entering the holiday seasons. I need to be stingy with my yes’s so that I don’t over commit. The old proverb is true, “The smallest good deed is better than the grandest intention.” Small deeds done well over a long period of time eventuate into grand accomplishments. Small acts of kindness and service repeated daily in our relationships can make all the difference in the world. The small act of reading the Bible 15 minutes a day will result in completing the Bible in a year. What do you need to complete before the year is out? With God’s help, it is achievable.

It is God, who, for his own generous purpose,
gives you the intention and the powers to act.
Philippians 2:13 (NJB)

Intentions don’t produce results; completions do. Your intentional actions push you towards greater success.

Just a thought,
Carl

Living Literally

In your life, what are your top five peak experiences? A peak experience is a deeply moving and meaningful event in your life. They can fall into several categories, for example: divine experiences like the one David had as a teenager when he slew Goliath, or Elijah when he called fire down from heaven and it devoured the sacrifice on Mount Carmel. Scripture is replete with examples of men and women having these peak experiences. They are important because they become defining moments in your life that can propel you forward during trying times. David said, “I killed the lion and the bear, (recalling a previous peak experience), and this uncircumcised Philistine will be no different”.
(1 Samuel 17:36)

Reflecting on past peak experiences can offer courage, inspiration and hope when you are facing a current challenge. Take a moment to reflect on some past peak experiences: Who were you at that time? What were you feeling? Did you journal anything that the Lord might use to encourage you today? Capture your peak experience. You never know when you might need them. Life has its high points and low points (after Mount Carmel, Elijah collapsed under a juniper tree).By God’s grace may we obtain balance by living somewhere in between.

Just a thought,
Carl
