All Success Comes Through Struggle
Did you know that the the things you enjoy from all your successes in life today are a result of the struggles you have overcome?
If you have a successful marriage, you have had to struggle through the difficult times together. If you’re successful in business, you’ve had to overcome obstacles. If you’re successful in school as a student, you have to struggle through study, preparation and hard work. If you’re an athlete then you have to struggle to be the best at what you’re doing.
Anything we want to accomplish in life that’s worth anything, requires a struggle to get there.
In Arnold Toynbee’s Book, A Study of History, he studied the great civilizations of the Athenians. You would think that great civilizations came into existence because they were advantaged somehow. But what Arnold discovered was that great civilizations arose to greatness, not because of their advantages, but because of their disadvantages.
It is struggling through disadvantages and setbacks that really set you up for success. To give you a quick example: we’ve all heard of Steve Jobs. Most people know his story. Steve Jobs was the co-founder of Apple at the age of 21. At the age of 21 he was worth millions. By the age of 23 he was recruited as a Fortune 500 CEO. Then something happened. Steve Jobs got fired from Apple. That’s a disadvantage.
He started a new company called NeXT, which was ultimately acquired by Apple, then Steve Jobs got rehired by Apple and became the CEO again…
Fast forward to today – I’m recording this post on an iPhone.There’s a good chance you’re reading this on an iPhone or an iPad or a Mac Book.
What that tells us is that all success in life comes through struggle. I know you may be struggling with grades, relationships, finances, self esteem or any number of issues in life right now. Whatever the struggle is – behind the struggle is success.
